According to reports making the round, Olivier Giroud is ready to commit his future to the Gunners – just two months after claiming his days at The Emirates Stadium could be numbered.
Giroud dropped a huge hint that he is close to signing a new deal at Arsenal.
“We’re on the verge of reaching an agreement for an extension,” Giroud told French television stationTelefoot. “It’s also a sign of confidence and I want to continue my adventure here in this Arsenal family, and I feel very good here. When I spoke with the manager, he always kept telling me that I’m an important player. I know what I’m capable of and it’s just a case of being patient, working hard in training and waiting for your hour to come.”
Giroud has been a regular at Arsenal since he joined in 2012 but has been made to feature from the bench this season. The striker’s first Premier League game this season was this year’s Boxing day fixture against West Brom and prior to that he has come off the bench on 10 occasions.
A combination of injuries and the superb form of Alexis Sanchez limited the French man to the bench and as usual, reports linking him with an exit from the Emirates started gaining momentum.
In a bid to end any doubt about the striker’s future, the Gunners opened talks to extend the player’s contract and reports emerged last week that he is close to signing a new deal.
