Reports are claiming Arsene Wenger is keen on strengthening our squad this winter and has identified the midfield as a position he needs to strengthen.

According to the Sun via the Express, Arsenal have made an approach to sign Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

Pjanic is currently one of football’s best deep-lying playmakers and Wenger wants to sign him as a replacement for Santi Cazorla.

Cazorla is currently out injured and is not expected to return until March.

Although Wenger has said he doesn’t intend to sign a new player this winter, he could be forced to because Elneny has left for the African cup of nations and Gideom Zelalem is the subject of interest from Bundesliga clubs. We could become light a bit in that position.

The report claims Wenger sees Pjanic as a like for like replacement for Cazorla and has personally phoned the Bosnia and Herzegovenia international about the possibility of a switch.

Arsenal are now preparing a £28m bid to sign the midfielder who is reportedly open to the idea of moving to the Emirates.

Pjanic joined Juventus last summer and has established himself as a key member of their team, so I doubt if the Serie A club will want to sell.

The midfielder chose to reject a move to the Premier League last season and I don’t think he will be keen on leaving Juventus just after six months.

Pjanic will be a perfect replacement for Cazorla as his style of play is exactly same as the Spaniard and is five years younger but I think this will be a difficult one to pull off if we are really interested.
