Dimitri Payet Off To Arsenal As Mesut Ozil’s Replacement- Insider Confirm Deal

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

West Ham Great Shaka Hislop believes Arsenal will make a move for Dimitri Payet if Ozil decides to quit the Emirates.

Ozil is currently stalling on signing a contract extension to his current deal which expires in 2018. Arsenal are eager to keep the German international beyond the length of his current contract but has been unable to reach an agreement with him.

Payet was linked with a move to Arsenal in December but Hislop believes that would depend on the outcome of Ozil’s contract renewal talks.

Hislop told ESPN FC: “Payet to Arsenal, I think, depends on Ozil who is asking for an awful lot of money to renew [his contract].

“And [Ozil] has not been that great.

“This deal could be a straight swap [for Wenger] so that depends on Ozil.”

However, Hislop reckons he doesn’t see Payet moving to Arsenal because he believes Ozil will pen a new contract at the Emirates.

He added: “I think it [won’t happen] only because I believe Ozil renews at Arsenal, so Payet does not join the Gunners.”

Ozil has missed Arsenal’s last two games this season due to illness and is not expected to return to action until we face Swansea in two weeks time.

Arsenal are still confident the player will sign a new contract at the Emirates and will continue to hold talks with the German.

Perhaps he doesn’t sign a new deal, I don’t think Payet will be the perfect replacement. Quality wise, the French man will be a great signing but at 29, he is on the wrong side of age to replace the German.
