Crystal Palace are closing in on the services of Carl Jenkinson, according to reports.
Last week, it was reported that Aston Villa had opened talks with Arsenal over signing Jenkinson after manager Steve Bruce earmarked the defender as his primary target this January transfer window.
London rivals West Ham were also said to be in the race to sign the defender but it appears it is Crystal Palace are leading the race for his signature.
The Mirror claim that Palace manager Sam Allardyce is keen to rush through a deal for the 24-year-old and hopes to complete it in time for the club’s weekend fixtures.
The report states Palace are trying to negotiate on a fee with the Gunners ahead of Watford, Aston Villa, Swansea and West Ham who have all shown interest in signing him this winter.
Previous reports claimed Arsenal are willing to send the midfielder out on loan next month with a view to a permanent deal in the summer and Palace are now hopeful they will reach an agreement to sign the defender despite interest from the Premier League in the defender.
Jenkinson’s last loan spell at West Ham was caught short by a serious knee injury and could be open to a move to the East London side having enjoyed a relative successful loan spell with them in the past.
Jenkinson has featured just five times for Arsenal this season and he failed to impress to the extent he was even booed by Gooners in his last outing for the club.
