Arsenal are considering making a move for Porto leftback Ricardo Pereira, according to reports.

The Gunners have been constantly linked with different leftbacks for well over a year due to doubts over the long term futures of both Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal.

Gibbs is already into the penultimate year of his contract and is yet to be offered a new deal by the club. Also he has fallen behind Monreal and some reports claim Arsenal could allow him leave at the end of the season.

There is also doubt over Monreal’s long term future as the Spaniard is already above thirty. Considering his position is one that requires so much pace and stamina, there are fears that he doesn’t have much time left to play at the top level.

And now according to the Daily Star, Arsenal are interested in signing FC Porto’s Ricardo Pereira.

Pereira, 23, is currently on loan at French Ligue 1 club Nice where he has impressed with his performances.

The Portuguese international can also play at right back and is versatility along with his quality is what have caught Wenger’s attention.

It could then be that Arsenal is considering him as back up for Hector Bellerin who could be the club’s only rightback at the end of the transfer window.

Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy are expected to leave the Emirates this summer which could leave us light in that position.

Wenger insists that he is not looking to sign any player this January but there is a chance he will if he sells both Jenkinson and Debuchy.

Pereira will then be a decent signing to provide cover for Bellerin and also at left back. From the little I know about the Portuguese, he does have the potential to play for a big club, although he is still learning his trade.
