Arsene Wenger has denied reports that he is interested in signing Porto’s fullback Ricardo Pereira.
Yesterday, the Mirror claimed Wenger wants to sign the Portuguese to provide cover for Hector Bellerin who could be the club’s only recognized right back if we lose both Jenkinson and Debuchy this month but the boss has ruled out making a move for the Portuguese defender.
The 23 year old defender is currently on loan with Nice and has been impressive for the French club, helping them to top of the Ligue 1 table.
Reports claim Wenger has been impressed by the defender’s performances and is considering a January bid for the young man but Wenger has denied that report, claiming he doesn’t intend to sign any player this month.
“No, we are not interested,” Wenger said.
The boss stressed he doesn’t intend to sign any new player this winter as he is expecting a number of first team stars back.
“At the moment nobody is coming in,” he said.
“For us the best thing would have been to get Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck back. There is very little hope to find players of that quality in the January market.”
“So the best way to deal with that is to get the injured players back.”
I do not know what Wenger’s plans are really but we can’t afford to sell both Jenkinson and Debuchy without bringing in a replacement. Should Bellerin pick up a knock, it would leave us light in that position which would be too risky.
We’ll have to Wait and see what Wenger has up his sleeve, we can only hope whatever decision he takes is the best.
