Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Kostas Manolas agent Ioannis Evangelopoulos has revealed that Arsenal had a huge bid rejected for his client last summer.

It’s no secret that Manolas was one of Arsenal’s target in the last summer transfer window before Wenger completed the signing of Shkodran Mustafi.

Manolas representative has now revealed that Arsenal’s refusal to meet Roma’s valuation was the reason a deal didn’t materialize.

It is claimed that Wenger’s bid was €40m but it wasn’t enough to convince Roma to sell the defender.

With Manolas’ future yet to be resolved, after he rejected a contract extension few weeks back, his agent has now refusued to rule out a move away from the Italian club.

“I cannot say where Kostas would like to play, but it will be interesting to see which teams will come knocking for him,” Evangelopoulos told Sport FM, as quoted by

“Roma refused a €40m offer from Arsenal for Kostas in the summer. The Gunners were really interested, but Roma’s demands exceeded what they were willing to pay.

“A transfer in January? There is no news there. There is no guarantee he will move in the summer, but there will probably be some offers. But in general it is hard to predict anything in football.

Personally, I think €40m for the Greek international was more than a fair deal but Roma were looking to take advantage of our interest.

Arsenal ended up signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia for about the price we were prepared to pay for Manolas and the German has proven to be our best summer signing so far.

Obviously, Wenger wouldn’t be interested in signing Manolas again as Mustafi has proven to be a shrewd signing for us.
