Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in signing 16-year-old Brazilian Vinicius Junior, according to reports.
The teenager currently plays for Brazilian outfit Flamengo as a striker and he is being tipped to do big things in the future. At his tender age, Vinicius is already being dubbed the next Neymar and top European clubs are already keeping tabs on the lad.
Arsenal are reportedly one of those clubs keeping tabs on the teenager in view to bringing him to England.
According to The Sun via the Express, Chelsea, Barcelona as well as the Gunners are interested in the striker and are keeping tabs on his development.
Manchester City who recently signed another highly rated Brazilian Gabriel Jesus are also interested in Vinicius and even made a move to secure first option on the striker but they were rebuffed by Flamengo.
Flamengo are not willing to sell the striker but we are told that he has a £26m release clause in his contract which could force their hands. That’s a huge sum of money for a young man who is yet to make his debut for the first team, isn’t it?
Despite all the hype surrounding the player, I don’t expect Wenger to pay anything close to that clause for the lad.
At 16, the striker is at a crucial stage in his development and a move to Europe may not appeal to him just yet but I expect Arsenal to continue keeping tabs on his progress and then make a move for him at the right time.
