Former Arsenal star Martin Keown fears Arsenal could lose one of Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez at the end of the season.
Both players are currently in talked with Arsenal to extend their contracts but an agreement doesn’t appear close. Talks were initiated at the beginning of the season and with half of the season gone, we still don’t know what the future holds for both stars.
Reports claim both players are demanding new deals worth well over £250,000 to stay and Arsenal wouldn’t be able to meet their demands. The club is still trying to convince them to reduce their demands but Keown is not hopeful that we can keep the duo if they insist on earning what they have demanded.
The ex-Gunner believe it will be easier to keep Sanchez than Ozil, citing the German seeking assurances about Wenger’s future as a negotiation tool that could complicate negotiations.
“I can understand that.”
“It’s another negotiation tool for him. It hasn’t stopped three
players signing new contracts this week.
“Are they going to sign? I’m not so sure. I think one of them might.
“Sanchez is the player that gets the kind of support from Arsene Wenger that he surely didn’t get at Barcelona.
“I’m not so sure with Ozil, I don’t know how that’s going to pan out. I’d like them both to stay of course.”
Honestly I don’t think there is any fan who would want to lose either of the duo. They are seen as the only two world class players in our squad and I think the decision of one would influence the other during negotiations.
Hopefully, they will both decide to stay here longer than their current deal.
