Carl Jenkinson’s move to Crystal Palace now depends on him after Arsenal reached an agreement with the Eagles to sign the defender, according to the Daily Star.
The defender is expected to leave the Emirates this month and it is Palace who are closing in on his signature.
Last week, Palace boss Sam Allardyce claimed his club already have an agreement with Arsenal to sign the defender and Wenger has now confirmed those claims by saying a transfer to Selhurst Park is close but it is up to the defender to decide whether he wants to join the Eagles or not.
Arsene Wenger said: “Jenkinson is a possibility to go to Palace but it is not finalised.
“It is down to him to find an agreement with them.”
It wasn’t stated if the deal to take Jenkinson to Selhurst park will be a permanent deal or a loan move with an option to buy at the season but it does look like the player’s career at Arsenal is over.
Jenkinson doesn’t have any chance of being Arsenal’s first choice right back after Bellerin made that spot his own. He has also dropped behind Gabriel Paulista as backup to Bellerin. Thus a permanent move looks like the best for the defender.
Mathieu Debuchy is another player expected to follow Jenkinson out of the Emirates this winter in search of regular football.
Jenkinson’s last Arsenal appearance was in the league cup defender to Southampton in November. A move to Palace will give him the perfect platform to kick-start his career and I hope he takes his chances this time around.
