AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe has revealed that on-loan Arsenal star Jack Wilshere is yet to make a decision on his future.
Afobe who has a special relationship with Wilshere having passed through the ranks with the midfielder at Arsenal believes his friend isn’t thinking about the future yet.
Wilshere joined Bournemouth on a season-long loan in August and has been in fine form for the Cherries, prompting reports linking him with a move to other top clubs. He will have just one year left in his Arsenal contract when he returns at the end of the season and it’s no surprise actually that there have been speculations about where his long-term future lies.
Reports had claimed the midfielder is afraid his future is away from the Emirates and is already thinking of what to do next that Afobe believes his friend is only concerned about helping Bournemouth do well this season.
“Of course everyone wants him to stay here. But this is something he has got to think about,” Afobe said, as quoted by the Express.
“To be honest I don’t think even he knows what he is going to be doing. We have conversations all the time and he just wants to play week in week out and take it month by month and see what happens at the end of the season.
“The main thing for him is about getting his confidence back and staying injury free. He is working hard every day, he is a top professional, and he has brought some life into the squad. Not just on the pitch but on the training ground.
“He is quite loud and quite funny and it shows how far Bournemouth have come bringing this sort of player to the club.”
This should tell us that reports suggesting doubts over Wilshere’s long-term future were made up by the media. Wenger had previously insisted that Arsenal will not open a contract extension with the midfielder so he can concentrate on helping Bournemouth and Afobe’s comments is in line with that of the boss.
Bournemouth have definitely benefited from having a top class player like Wilshere in its squad and I wouldn’t be surprised if they attempt to sign him permanently at the end of the season.
However, Wenger is expected to rebuff any bid to sign the midfielder and will offer him a new deal long-term contract.
