Alexis Sanchez is unsure if he will sign a contract extension at Arsenal, this is according to former Gunner Robert Pires.
Pires who works as one of the youth team coaches at Arsenal has revealed that Sanchez doesn’t know if he will sign a new deal or not but is focused on helping Arsenal win titles.
The Chilean’s contract expires at the end of next season and talks to convince the player to extend his contract has been fruitless.
The actual reason why negotiations haven’t made progress despite talks being on for a long time is unknown and this has led to speculations linking the forward with an exit.
Gooners have been hoping Arsenal would reach an agreement with the player as soon as possible so as to put an end to other club’s hopes of signing him but it seems we still have a long way to go as the player is still uncertain if he will extend his stay here or not.
Speaking in an interview with Chile newspaper Le Tercera, Pires said:
“I spoke to Alexis last week and asked about the renewal. He told me he didn’t know, that he only cared to play. The renewal is not a subject for Alexis. He doesn’t know what is going to happen, he just wants to play and enjoy.”
In order words, the striker is still deliberating over his future and hasn’t decided if we wants to stay here or not.
This isn’t too good for us as a club, it is imperative we keep our best players at all cost and it is also important that the want to stay with us.
In an era where the Premier League is getting tougher every season, keeping your best players hasn’t been any more important and Arsenal have to realise this and do whatever is needed to keep Sanchez here.
The striker has scored 17 goals in all competitions for us this season and that should be enough to send a message to those in charge of offering him a new deal that he is too important to let go.
