Paris Saint-Germain have beaten Arsenal and Manchester United to the services of Portuguese winger Goncalo Guedes.
Guedes was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates and it was thought that Arsenal were closing in on his signature when Benfica’s president Luis Felipe Vieira landed in London last week to hold negotiations over the sale of the player.
Manchester United were another club said to be keen on the striker and reports were confident that he was closing in on a move to the Premier League but according to BBC Sport, it is PSG who have won the race to sign the highly rated winger.
PSG’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed the signing and also revealed they signed the Portuguese forward despite interest from numerous top clubs.
The 20 year old has penned a four and a half year deal with the French club. The deal cost PSG £25.5m and could cost £6m more if he is sold in the future.
It’s a bit surprising that Arsenal didn’t show enough fight to sign the winger at this price. Considering his huge potential he could become a bargain buy for that fee in the nearest future.
Guedes established himself as one of Portugal’s most promising youngsters in recent years scoring 11 goals and providing 16 assists for his former club in 68 games.
Wenger will now have to turn his attention elsewhere as PSG have won the race to sign one of his top targets. So sad but I really wanted Guedes at the Emirates.
