Arsenal Begins Negotiation For Defender Ahead Of Summer Transfer Window

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Arsenal are still interested in AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to reports.

Wenger has been a big fan of the defender and was reportedly close to signing him from Olympiakos in 2014 before Roma swooped for his services. He has developed into a top defender at the Italian club as Wenger retained his interest in the defender.

He was our priority target in the last summer transfer window but Roma weren’t interested in selling and a move failed to materialize. We then signed Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia who has already established himself as a key player in our squad.

But reckon we are still interested in Manolas.

The report claims Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Manolas ahead of a summer move to the Emirates.

Roma who didn’t want to lose the defender just six months ago are now willing to sell him in the next transfer window after they failed to convince him to sign a new deal.

Aand the report makes us believe that Arsenal are the favorites to sign the midfielder despite serious interest from Inter Milan.

Roma are expected to accept any bid in the region of £47m for the 25 year old defender at the end of the season, which I think will put off Wenger if we are truly interested in signing a defender.

Wenger is a known admirer of Manolas but I don’t expect him to spend that much on a centre back in the next transfer window. We have so many options in that position already and it will be unnecessary to spend big on a new defender when there are other positions that need attention.
