Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom has joined Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion on loan until the end of the season.

The young forward struggled to make an impression at Arsenal in the first half of the campaign and Wenger thought it would be wise to send him out on loan so he can play regularly.

For  majority of the transfer window, Aston Villa were touted as the forward’s likeliest destination but it is Brighton who managed to secure the lad’s services.

Arsenal yesterday confirmed that the forward will join the Championship leaders until the end of the campaign.

“Chuba Akpom will join Championship leaders Brighton & Hove Albion on loan for remainder of the season,” a statement on Arsenal’s official site read.

The forward has now joined the likes of Jon Toral and Gideon Zelalem as Arsenal’s winter departures.

Akpom spent last season on loan in the Championship with Hull City and helped the Tigers gain promotion to the Premier League and will have to achieve same feat with Brighton again.

His performances had convinced Wenger to keep him at Arsenal at the beginning of the season but things didn’t go as planned for the youngster due to a combination of injuries and superb form of the senior players. He hasn’t featured for the Gunners since an EFL cup game in September and keeping him here when he isn’t going to play would’ve had a negative effect on his development.

A loan move to the Championship is definitely the best decision for the youngster, hopefully he will return to us a better player at the end of the season.
