Germany forward Julian Draxler has confirmed Arsenal were interested in signing him in the past.

The winger completed a move to PSG in the early days of the January transfer window after reportedly falling out with his former club Wolfsburg.

Prior to his transfer, the player was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates. Wenger was expected to rival Paris boss Emery for the forward’s signature but to the surprise of many, the French giants didn’t face any competition in signing the German.

Draxler has now revealed Arsenal made no attempt to sign him in January but we contacted with him 2-3 years ago.

“I had some good years in Germany but I wanted to experience something different,” Draxler told French TV station TF1(via the Express) .

“For that reason, I chose to join PSG.

“The directors and coach at Wolfsburg have changed. I was on good terms with them and we decided it was best if I left.

“I listened to my heart and chose PSG as they play in a style that suits me best.

“I had several options though. Arsenal had been in contact since about two or three years ago but I was not in touch with them this winter [before joining PSG].”

Well this further proves that it isn’t every player being linked with a move to the Emirates that we are truly interested in.

Reports linking us to Draxler were so strong that some media houses even claimed Wenger wanted to do it to make Ozil sign a new contract. It’s surprising to now hear from the player that there was no contact at all.

Now that Draxler has opened up on his move to PSG, do you think it was a bad decision on Arsenal’s part not to move for the winger or he was a bullet dodged considering the saga that surrounded him in his final days at Wolfsburg?
