According to Squawka, Arsene Wenger has been warned by his close friends to make a decision on his future.
Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to decide whether he will sign a new deal or not. All attempts by the club hierarchy to convince him to sign a new deal has been fruitless.
The Squawka are now reporting that people close to the boss has urged him to make a decision on his future as the uncertainty surrounding his future could derail our season and prompt key players to leave the club.
The last couple of weeks has seen us lose ground in the title race while a 5-1 defeat in the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday means our participation in this season’s Champions League is all but over.
The report says Wenger held talks with his backroom staff after the 3-1 loss against Chelsea a fortnight ago and he was told that constant speculation about his future is affecting team’s performances and he was urged to at least give an indication on his future in private.
Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who are stalling on signing new contracts with us have already revealed that they want the future of Wenger to be resolved first before making a decision on theirs. Meaning, we risk losing both players in the summer transfer window if Wenger leaves the club at the end fo the season.
Wenger has fallen out of favor with many supporters due to his failure to guide us to the league title since 2004 and some Gooners are already calling for him to step down at the end of the season. This is a difficult situation as his exit could spark an exodus of our top players which would be bad for us as a club, little wonder why the club chiefs want him to sign a new deal.
I am hoping Wenger and the players put the club first when making their decisions so we won’t find ourselves further behind our rivals next season.
