Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed that he could have been playing for Arsenal had he chosen to leave his homeland at a tender age.
Wijnaldum who took the Premier League by storm in his first season with Newcastle moved to Liverpool last summer and has now revealed he couLD have been lining up at the Emirates now instead of the Anfield.
The Dutch midfielder said an Arsenal scout tried to lure him to England at the age of 15 but he felt staying at Feyenoord was the right decision for his career at that time.
“It is true that meeting my agent Humphry Nijman has been the best that has happened to me,” he told Dutch newspaper AD, as quoted by the Express.
“Also, when I was 15, I suddenly had a scout from Arsenal on the phone to see if I wanted to come to London.
“And there were more big clubs. But I wanted to break through at Feyenoord.”
Arsenal have one of the best academy in England, made up of talented youngsters from different countries in Europe and this is a testament of the good works of our scouting department.
So it isn’t any surprise that we approached Wijnaldum at a tender age, however he chose to remain at Feyenoord which is good for him.
Hector Bellerin is a prime example of a player who joined us at about the same age we approached Wijnaldum and now he is one of the best in his position.
It’s anyone’s guess if Wijnaldum would have been a better player than he is now had he chose to join us in his formative years.
