Deal In Progress- Arsenal To Announce Deal For The New Philipp Lahm

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Arsenal held talks over a deal to sign Monaco defender Fabinho, according to the player’s father.

Fabinho has been one of Monaco’s key players this season, helping his team to the top of the French League table. The Brazilian has been a mainstay over the years and was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League last summer but Monaco weren’t interested in selling, instead managed to tie him down to a new contract which expires in 2021.

The new deal was supposed to end speculations surrounding the fullback’s future but his performances this term has been so superb that he is even attracting more interests.

And surprisingly, the player’s father Joao Roberto Tavares named Arsenal as one of the club’s interested in the defender.

“We have been in talks with Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and approached by Barcelona, Football-Talk.

“We like Manchester United and [Jose] Mourinho’s work, but we have a soft spot for Manchester City.”

I don’t know if Wenger actually held talks with the player’s camp but this news will excite Gooners. Fans want to see their club being linked with top players and Fabinho is definitely one. At 23, he still has a lot of room for improvement and will be a great signing for any club.

I liken him to Germany legend Philipp Lahm due to his ability to play at right back and in the holding midfield role just like the veteran defender.

Fabinho is already in the process of making a name for himself and may need to take the next step to a top club to fulfill his potential. We will have to wait and see if Arsenal will be his next destination
