Arsenal Lock Horn For Star Man Ahead Of Summer Deal

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Lazio, Arsenal and watford are set to rival each other in the race to sign Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont, according to Talksport.

Lafont has established himself as one of Europe’s finest goalkeeping talents and is attracting interests from a host of big clubs.

However, it is Arsenal and Watford who are said to be leading the race for Laont’s signature.

Arsenal scouts have been watching the goalkeeeper since the beginning of the season and have been impressed with his form.

Wenger is reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper as he searches for a successor to Petr Cech and has also been linked with Manchester City’s Joe Hart and Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel.

Lafont along with the Premier League duo are on Wenger’s wish list but we would face competition from Watford who are also in the market for a new goalkeeper after making an unsuccessful attempt to sign Chelsea’s Asmir Begovic in January.

Although Hart and Schmeichel are top quality goalkeepers with more experience than Lafont, I think a move for the Toulouse man will be a better deal for Arsenal in the long run.

At 18, he would offer us more than a decade of top football if he is able to fulfil his potential. Also he would also come with less media hype and will take his time as an understudy to Cech in the next few years before breaking into the first team proper.

Lafont has made almost half a century of league appearances for Toulouse since making his debut in 2015 and I think that would place him in good stead to succeed Cech.
