Barcelona are not interested in signing Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, according to a report.
Reports in Spain had suggested that Barcelona are one of the clubs looking at the possibility of signing Ozil in the summer transfer window but Mundo Deportivo claims otherwise.
Ozil’s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of next season but the German has yet to agree a new deal to keep him here. It is thought that he is keeping his options open and Barcelona were one of the clubs linked with a possible move.
Mundo Deportivo reckons that the German is not Barcelona’s kind of player, hence they are not targeting him. However, it is Borussia Dortmund Julian Weigl or Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi who are on the Spanish giant’s radar.
The report claims Ozil is keen on a move to the Camp Nou, having become frustrated with life at Arsenal but the feeling isn’t mutual.
Ozil has been a key player for Arsenal since he joined in 2013 but his poor form in recent weeks has prompted calls for him to be left out of the starting xi. His agent recently hit out at the midfielder’s critics, claiming his client is not the reason for Arsenal’s failure.
Barcelona not being interested in the midfielder is good news but the player’s desire to leave the Emirates is a cause to worry. He is definitely one of our best players on his day and would be a big miss if he leaves this summer.
