Arsenal are interested in signing Toulouse defender Issa Diop, according to reports.
Diop, 20, has established himself as a first-team regular at Toulouse this season and has so far given a good account of himself.
According to France Football via the Daily Star, Arsenal have been alerted by the youngster’s performances and are interested in signing him.
However, we would face competition from Tottenham as Mauricio Pochettino is also keen on the France U21 defender.
The report claims scouts from Arsenal and Spurs were present at Toulouse game against Paris Saint Germain on Sunday to watch Diop. The defender was very impressive on the night as he helped his team hold the French champions to a goalless draw.
The report reckons both clubs will have to spend big to sign the defender as Toulouse is likely to demand huge bucks if they are to sell their prized asset.
Diop’s contract at the French club doesn’t run out until 2020, so his club will not be under any pressure whatsoever to sell him.
Wenger who has been successful working with French players is expected to strengthen his squad this summer and it remains to be seen if he would step up the club’s interest in Diop.
Arsenal scouts will continue to monitor the defender until the end of the season and his performances for the remainder of the campaign will have a big say on what will happen to him in the summer.
