Olympic Marseille are lining up an audacious swoop for Olivier Giroud, according to reports.
The French striker has featured less for Arsenal this season compared to previous seasons, after losing his position to Alexis Sanchez at the beginning of the season. He is now being linked with a move back to France, with Marseille said to be keen on his services.
Alexis Sanchez is currently Wenger’s first choice centre forward, limiting Giroud to just six Premier League starts. However, the former Montpelier man has continued to show his quality by making great impact off the bench and Goal France via the Metro claim Marseille want to lure the striker back to France.
The French club is willing to spend big this summer and has identified Giroud as a key target.
Earlier in the season, Giroud publicly revealed he is unhappy on the bench and wants to fight his way back into the first team but things haven’t changed as Sanchez has continued to impress in the centre forward role and Marseille could now take advantage of the situation.
Giroud recently signed a new deal with Arsenal and Wenger would be unwilling to let him leave especially when the long-term future of Sanchez is still unresolved.
The French striker has been a regular for Arsenal since he joined in 2012, making over 150 appearances for Arsenal and scoring 65 league goals.
