Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes Celtic boss Bredan Rodgers will be a perfect successor to Arsene Wenger.
Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the current season and he is yet to decide whether he will sign a new deal or not.
There are talks that Wenger could step down if he fails to win a title this season and Arsenal have already begun searching for a replacement, according to the papers but Parlour believes Rodgers should be considered by the club’s hierarchy as a replacement for the French man if he decides to step down.
The Former Gunner is a big admirer of Rodgers and he believes the former Liverpool boss is doing a brilliant job at Celtic.
Speaking on Wenger’s future and a possible replacement, Parlour said, a quoted by Tribal Football:
“There’s a lot of uncertainty at Arsenal right now so anything could happen.
“They need to sort out the contract situations regarding the likes of Sanchez, Ozil and Jack Wilshere but of course there’s Arsene’s situation as well.
“I honestly don’t know what will happen with him, it’s 50-50 right now.
“I’m sure he will discuss it with the board in the summer but at the moment they have an FA Cup tie against Lincoln to get into the semi-finals and are back in the top four in the league.
“It could go either way. I’m sure if Arsene was to go then Brendan Rodgers would be one of the names mentioned as a possible replacement.
“He’ll probably get linked with a lot of the jobs that come up in England but whether he would take them is a different matter. I could see the attraction of going to an Arsenal but Celtic are a huge club – as Alan Brazil keeps telling me.
“Brendan comes on the show a lot and you get the feeling he is happy where he is right now.
“He’s doing a brilliant job, they’re miles ahead in the league and I thought they did well in a really tough group in Europe.”
No one can deny Rodgers is doing a great job at Celtic but I don’t think he has the quality to manage a team like Arsenal. His previous spell at Liverpool ended in disaster, although he had a brilliant season where his then Reds team played brilliant football, he couldn’t just lead them to the title as they succumbed to pressure in the closing stages of that season, obviously due to lack of title-winning experience.
Arsenal need a manager with a track record of winning titles at the highest level to replace Wenger if he decides to step down and apparently Rodgers doesn’t have such record.
