Arsenal are interested in signing Sassuolo midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to reports.
The talented midfielder has been one of Sassuolo’s best players this season and has scored seven goals and provided five assits this term. His superb performances have now caught the attention of top clubs including Arsenal.
Pellegrini moved to Sassuolo from AS Roma in 2015 and his rapid development in the last two years has also attracted interest from Juventus and his former club.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport via The Daily Express claims Arsenal scouts were in Sassuolo’s game versus AC Milan on Sunday to watch the midfielder.
The report claims Arsenal representatives were there to run the rule over Pellegrini as Wenger prepares a summer bid for the lad.
Despite his team suffering a 1-0 loss on the night, the 20-year-old had a good game which must have impressed his suitors.
However, our chances of signing him is very slim as it is Roma who are firmly in the race to sign the youngster. The Italian club inserted a buy-back clause in the deal that took Pellegrini to Sassuolo two years ago and could activate that option.
Should Luciano Spalletti opt against signing the midfielder, Juventus and Arsenal could go head to head in the race to sign the midfielder.
This will be an interesting one to look out for in the summer transfer window which is already promising to be a busy one if we believe what the papers have been saying.
