Barcelona are set to hijack Arsenal’s attempt to sign Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, according to the Express.
Allegri is reportedly top on Arsenal’s wish list to replace Wenger who reports claim could step down at the end of the season.
But the Gunners could now miss out on its top target after Barca joined the race to sign the Juventus manager.
Wenger’s contract expires at the end of this season but has refused to sign the new two-year contract he has been offered. The boss is insisting he won’t make a decision on his future until April and there are fears within the club that he could step down for a new hand to take over.
It’s been reported that Arsenal have made a move to sign Allegri and have contacted the Italian’s representatives about the possibility of moving to North London.
But Arsenal’s plans could be disrupted if Barcelona step up their interest.
Barcelona’s sporting director Ariedo Braida who worked with Allegri at AC Milan has sounded out his former colleague as a replacement for under-fire Luis Enrique.
Allegri has so far remained coy about is Juventus future and his silence is encouraging clubs to make a move for him.
Although Allegri will be a great signing for us, I don’t think Arsenal’s interest in Allegri is as concrete as reports make it seem. It is more likely that Wenger would sign a new deal.
