Chelsea are the latest club understood to join the heavyweight queue interested in signing Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez.
Reports are claiming Sanchez has decided to leave Arsenal this season, after growing disillusioned with life at the Emirates.
The Chilean’s refusal to sign an extension leaves him with a contract with just over a year left to run and is set to expire at the end of next season.
Arsenal now find themselves in the Robin Van Persie situation over again and may now be forced to sell him in the next transfer window in order to avoid losing him for nothing next year.
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in signing the forward.
The Blues have relied heavily on Diego Costa this season with summer signing Michy Batshuayi struggling to fill in whenever called upon. Reports claim they are prepared to offload the Belgian who just joined them less than a year ago in order to provide space for Sanchez in their squad.
The Blues are now keeping tabs on the forward’s situation but are expected to face stiff competition from PSG and Juventus should Arsenal consider any offers.
Chelsea’s attempt to sign Sanchez could also be frustrated with Wenger’s reluctance to sell the star player to a rival club, the Frenchman seems to have learned after Van Persie departure to Manchester United in 2012. As long as there is interest from clubs outside England for Sanchez, which is a certainty considering the player is world class, Chelsea will have little or no chance of signing him. Wenger has already fallen out with some Gooners due to the club’s inability to challenge for titles and he wouldn’t want to anger us further by selling a key player to a rival.
