Juventus are looking to ruin Arsenal’s summer transfer plans according to report.
In December, the Telegraph revealed that Arsenal have made signing a left back this summer one of its priorities and we have been linked with a host of top defenders.
Juventus fullback Alex Sandro is one player that is believed to be on Arsenal’s radar.
The left back is being eyed as a replacement for Nacho Monreal who hasn’t really been convincing with his performances this term. Although the Spaniard remain a key part of the first team, Wenger is looking to strengthen that position ahead of next season.
Monreal’s lack of pace was exposed badly in the game against Liverpool on Saturday and Wenger is looking to fix that with younger option like Sandro.
But our plan is set to be frustrated by Juventus who are close to agreeing a new deal with the defender.
According to The Mirror, Juventus are close to agreeing a new £70,000 a week deal with Sandro which will end Arsenal’s hope of signing him.
It was claimed that we have put aside a £25m bid for the Brazilian but Juventus are ready to head off any approach from us.
Sandro has established himself as one of Europe’s best defenders since he moved to Turin in 2014 and this new deal is expected to keep him there until 2022.
He would have been a quality addition to our squad but we will now have to turn our attention to other targets as we search for a long-term successor to Monreal.
