Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette has confirmed he will be leaving Olympic Lyon this summer.

The French striker was the subject of a €35m bid from Arsenal last summer, which was rejected by his club. Subsequent efforts to push through a deal were fruitless as Lyon were insistent on keeping their star man.

Fast forward one year later, they have now changed their stance. The French giants are prepared to listen to offers for Lacazette who has come out to reveal that it’s about time he moves to a bigger club.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Lacazette reveals he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in a top European team, while confirming he has spoken to Atletico Madrid.

“I think that’s the right time. I want to discover something else, and to play at a different level,” Lacazette told L’Equipe .

“I know very well that on a European scale I am not yet well recognised. I want to see if I can answer the questions that people are asking, and to make further progress.”

Arsenal are in the market for a striker and Wenger is expected to renew his interest in Lacazette. The French tactician is a big admirer of the striker but his own future which is still clouded with uncertainty must be resolved before making a move for any of our summer targets.

There is still a long way to go before the end of the transfer window and it remains to be seen if we’ll beat Atletico to Lacazette’s services. I hope we do because the shortage of top class strikers in the transfer market means we may not find a better option if we miss out on the Lyon man.
