Arsenal have been handed a massive boost in signing on of Arsene Wenger’s long-term target Alvaro Morata as reports claim he has rejected a move to Manchester United, leaving Arsenal in pole position for his signature.
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal will have to battle Chelsea who are also keen on his signature.
Morata scored 12 goals and made a further 12 last season for Italian champions Juventus.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu and United are thought to have already had a £52million bid rejected by the Spanish giants.
‘I want to be playing and to be important to the squad, particularly next year when there is the World Cup,’ said Morata.
‘But I want to fight for my place here, I would be crazy to leave Real Madrid.’
Despite his relative lack of starts, Morata still managed to score 20 goals in all competitions last season.
The striker has also attracted the attention of AC Milan boss Vincenzo Montella, who says he would welcome the Spaniard at the San Siro next season.
‘Morata is a very strong player, just like [Andrea] Belotti, [Nikola] Kalinic, [Moussa] Dembele, [Romelu] Lukaku, Diego Costa and [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang,’ Montella told Tuttosport.
