According to reports in Italy, Arsenal could suffer a massive blow in signing Riyad Mahrez this summer as the Algerian international has agreed a move to AS Roma.
The Mirror (via Le10Sport) claims Mahrez is frustrated with the wait for Arsenal to make a formal bid for him but the previous report suggest Mahrez wants to play Champions League football which Roma can guarantee.
The former PFA player failed to replicate the form which he displayed “two” seasons ago when Leicester City won the Premier League title against all odds.
He was only able to score 10 goals in all competitions for Leicester City last season, which explained why Arsenal weren’t keen on paying £50 million (€56m) on him.
Trouble is, the price doesn’t seem to have gone down, despite reports last week indicating that as little as €40m would be enough to snag the 26-year-old.
Roma themselves let it be known through sporting director Monchi that they weren’t keen on paying more than the €35m they’ve already bid.
“We’ve made two offers,” the former Sevilla transfer guru confirmed, “the second one is the right one, we’ll evaluate other options.
“There are no percentages [of succeeding], either a deal is made or it isn’t. Mahrez is one of the options, but not the only one.
“It’s true that it could be the last offer [we make].”
