Arsenal officially announced they have reward Emile Smith Rowe with his first professional contract to fend off offer from Barcelona and Tottenham who have been heavily linked with a move for the star player.
The 17-year-old, who joined the Gunners aged 10, is described as a “pacy winger with a keen eye for goal”.
A statement on the club’s website: “We’d like to congratulate Emile on his first professional contract and look forward to his continued progress in the year ahead.”
Smith Rowe said on Twitter: “Happy to have signed my first professional contract for @Arsenal.”
He made his first appearance for Arsenal’s Under-23 team last season at the age of 16.
The young lad has played 15 times for the Gunners’ academy side, scoring six goals.
He has won eight caps at Under-17 level for England.
