Arsenal forward Lucas Perez has handed in a transfer request as he plans to leave the club after just one season.

The 28-year-old arrived at the Emirates last summer after impressing in the Spanish La Liga with Deportivo La Coruna where he was also the captain.

However, the Spaniard has not been able to nail a starting place under Arsene Wenger due to the presence of Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud despite proving his deadly instincts in his cameo appearances in the Premier League.

Having signed the striker due to a longterm injury to Danny Welbeck, Wenger did not give the forward much chances to show his worth as Welbeck returned to action earlier than expected.

Perez has come out to reveal his frustrations over his lack of playing chances at the Emirates and his agent even came out to point out how Arsenal gave his client’s number 9 jersey to new signing Alex Lacazette without the striker’s prior consent.

Wenger has also admitted that the striker might find it difficult to break into his plans at the Emirates due to the congestion of strikers in Arsenal’s squad.

He said: ‘We haveso many strikers strikers.

‘I don’t like to lose him because, for me, he’s a top-quality striker but we have many strikers.

‘At some stage, too much competition is not competition anymore.
