Arsene Wenger has admitted he has to get busy in the transfer market – but not in the way most Arsenal fans would expect.
The Gunners boss has already made two high profile additions this summer, bringing in Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee from Lyon and Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke.
Both were impressive as the Gunners came from behind to beat Chelsea on penalties on Sunday to win the Community Shield – with Kolasinac scoring the late equaliser for Arsenal in the 1-1 draw.
Wenger wants to make further additions, with Thomas Lemar and Jean Seri key targets – but Wenger gave a different sort of transfer update after the success at Wembley, admitting that player sales are now a certainty at the Emirates.
The likes of Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy and even Jack Wilshere could be on their way out as the Arsenal boss looks to reduce his squad size from the current number of 33.
“The number is to high,” said Wenger. “We will let some players go because too much competition for places is detrimental.
“Not enough competition is also detrimental, but 33 is too high.”
