Wilshere’s current contract expires in the summer, meaning Arsenal know that realistically they have to have made substantive progress in negotiations by next month if there is any chance of the midfielder staying at the club.

However, if his run of form continues, Wilshere is likely to be back in Gareth Southgate’s England side.

Negotiations have been put on hold until the 25-year-old player shows his fitness, yet the Gunners will now have to move to get ahead of rival clubs who will be lining up offers.

Everton and Roma have pursued Wilshere in the past, but it is likely that, if he shows fitness, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea will also show interest in a midfielder who would help boost their quota of home-grown players in European matches.

Arsenal academy graduated player Jack Wilshere has played in 161 games so far and scored 12 goals for the club. The 25-year-old England international midfielder won the two FA Cups with The Gunners.
