It has emerged that Mesut Ozil is on the verge of agreeing to join Manchester United. The Arsenal midfielder is out of contract in July 2018, and has failed to agree a new contract with the Gunners.
Several hours after Ozil to Manchester United reports emerged, Arsene Wenger spoke to the media about the player’s possible exit. Wenger stated the link between Ozil and the Red Devils will not prevent the German from being selected for matches.
“No. We have to deal with all kinds of speculation when the players are at the end of their contracts,” Wenger said.
“On the other hand, to be professional is to give 100 percent as long as you are somewhere.
“For the rest, we came out many times and said that’s the situation. It [the media] can come out tomorrow and say that he extends his contract here. It will be exactly the same, it will not change anything. When you play the next game, commit 100 percent.”
Arsenal may be willing to deal Ozil to Manchester United in January. The team are in a situation in which they could lose him for free in eight months. In the end, Wenger could be happy to sell Ozil as the German has started just four times this term. His form has been poor, and he has failed to register a goal or assist in six Premier League games.
