Arsenal are a club that show interest in about all the world-class players but they end up not getting them. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, N’golo Kante, Lionel Messi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kylian Mbappe to mention but a few have been mentioned by Arsene Wenger as targets at one time but they remain only targets.
French attacker Antoine Griezmann has revealed that he would have joined Arsenal in the summer of 2013 but did not make the move because no offers were made to match the interest shown in him, as per reports.
Griezmann made the revelation in his autobiography ‘Behind the smile: The life of the little Prince… as told by himself’, and it is currently being serialised in Spain.’
Griezmann had a barnstorming season for his former Club Real Sociedad in the 2012/2013 season as he led them to the Champions League. He caught the attention and attraction of Arsenal and the Gunners signified interest in him through his agent Eric Olhats.
Arsenal scout at that time Gilles Grimandi was also in close contact with Greizmann but the French star was left frustrated as no offers were made for him. He revealed in his book the scar the snub has left on him,
He further insinuated that he will never lace his boots for Arsenal.
“I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting.
“When there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.
“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move.
“I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.
“So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us’.”
Griezmann is currently on the radar of Real Madrid and Manchester United. But for the transfer ban handed to Atletico Madrid, he would have joined Man United in the summer.
