Arsenal vs Manchester United might not have the vicious steak it once had. You could say the same about Arsene Wenger vs Jose Mourinho, the rivalry that for so long stood as the most bitter between managers in the Premier League.
But the meeting between the two sides who once ruled the top flight is always a landmark date in the English football calendar with Saturday’s (2 December) meeting at the Emirates Stadium the wrong time for either side to shy away given the looming chasm between them and league leaders Manchester City.
Arsenal are expected to start with a 3-4-3 formation which has given them success recently. Alexis Sanchez is expected to start upfront.
Sanchez’s tendency to drift to the left means that whoever starts on the left should adapt accordingly and move into the space Sanchez has vacated.
Danny Welbeck would have been the preferred option as he can play both as a central striker and on the left but with his current fitness level, Wenger wouldn’t want to take such a risk in a big game.
So Alex Iwobi is expected to start on the left. The rest of the team has a settled look and Wenger isn’t expected to surprise us with his selection in midfield or in defence.
