Alex Song is reportedly set to leave Rubin Kazan as the Russian club have failed to pay his wages for four months.
Rubin Kazan are currently facing financial difficulties, which have allegedly resulted in the Russian side being unable to pay some of their top players, including Song, for four months. Therefore, the midfielder is apparently looking to leave and could return to the Premier League.
Song’s career has steadily gone downhill since leaving Arsenal in 2012. Firstly, the ex-Cameroon international got too big for his boots and pushed for a move to Barcelona. The Gunners promptly sold him to the Catalan giants for £15m, which turned out to be a superb bit of business.
The 30-year-old made a total 65 appearances over all competitions (49 in La Liga) for Barca during the two years he spent there before they finally realised that he wasn’t good enough and sent him out on loan to West Ham in 2014.
Song found himself back in England for two years, where he made just 40 appearances in the Premier League for the Hammers.
Barca then sold him permanently to Rubin Kazan in 2016, where he seems to have found his level. However, if the rumours that he’s not been paid in four months are true, it looks as if the honeymoon period is once again over.
