Nacho Monreal could be on his way back to Spain with Athletic Bilbao.
It seems the La Liga outfit see the Arsenal left-back as a possible replacement for Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte, 23, is reportedly close to joining Manchester City who have triggered his release £57million clause.
And according to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, Athletic Bilbao could look at Monreal to fill Laporte’s boots in defence.
The Spaniard returned to action in the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend after recovering from an injury.
He has made 20 Premier League appearances in the present campaign.
In addition to helping his side’s defence, the adventurous Monreal has also chipped in with three goals and two assists in the league.
Monreal, aged 31, cost the Gunners £8.5million when he left Malaga in 2013. He previously played for Osasuna.
He has made 173 starts for Arsenal, scoring six goals.
Arsenal fans would be sad to see him go. He is is a classic case of ‘what you see is what you get.’
