Malcom admits he wanted to leave France to join Spurs or Arsenal but Bordeaux denied him the opportunity.
Arsenal were reportedly in the latter stages of negotiations with the French club and were haggling over a fee for the 20-year-old.
Malcom told Telefoot: “I wanted to leave. I tell the truth. It’s my dream to progress in my career.
“I spoke with the president [Stephane Martin], he told me that he knew it was my dream, but that he needed me.
“I told him he could count on me until the end [of the season].
“I will do everything to bring Bordeaux to the top six in Ligue 1.”
The two clubs’ estimations were quite different, with Bordeaux wanting £45million for Malcom, but Arsenal weren’t willing to spend that much on a relatively unknown quantity.
A contract was offered to the Brazilian from the Gunners which he apparently turned down, hoping for better terms to come back.
