The arrival of former Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang paved way for Olivier Giroud to leave the Emirates Stadium in January.
The Former Arsenal striker has revealed he left the North London side at the right time to start a fresh challenge having completed a move to Chelsea.
“I needed to leave Arsenal and now it’s a new chapter of my career,” he told BT Sport.
“The fans expect a lot from Chelsea strikers.
“I’m here to win trophies, to help the team reach our targets.”
Giroud started this evening as Chelsea hosted Hull in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
He won the trophy three times with Arsenal and is hoping to add to his collection.
“It’s the oldest competition in football ever,” he continued.
“I used to do well with my old team Arsenal, it’s a bit difficult to say.
“I’ve got a good past but I want to write the future now with Chelsea.”
Antonio Conte needed competition for the misfiring Alvaro Morata and secured a deal for Giroud on deadline day.
