Arsenal have effectively told Alexandre Lacazette he has no future at the club by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, claims pundit Steve Nicol.
Lacazette only joined Arsenal last summer from Lyon for a then club-record fee of £52.7million.
The Frenchman has struggled, scoring just nine goals in 29 appearances for the Gunners.
His form led to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger dipping into the transfer market in January to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for £60m.
Aubameyang replaced Lacazette in the starting XI for the next two Premier League matches before Lacazette suffered a knee injury which will rule him out until early March.
Nicol says Lacazette must leave because it is clear he has been replaced as Arsenal’s first-choice striker.
“I think this is a no-brainer,” the Liverpool legend told ESPN FC.
“If you’re Lacazette, do you want to stay at Arsenal?
“You’ve never been given a chance, they bring in another player in Aubameyang, which pretty much tells you you have no future at Arsenal, absolutely.
“Wenger never gave him a chance, he never started him in the big games at the start of the season. Come January, he buys Aubameyang and he’s sitting on the bench again.
“There’s no future for this guy at Arsenal and the only way for this guy to get on the field is by leaving Arsenal.
“Regardless of how long he’s been there, which is not long, he has to move.”
