Jamie Redknapp has admitted he’s been disappointed with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang since his January move to Arsenal.
The Gabonese international has scored three times in his first six appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, since his £56million January move.
But he hasn’t revitalised the north London club like many – and perhaps his price tag – suggested he would, and Redknapp thinks it’s because the negative energy at the club has rubbed off on him.
“I think if he costs £60million you want him in the team, he scored last week, but he hasn’t hit the heights yet. I have got to be honest, I’ve been a little bit disappointed,” said Redknapp on Sky Sports.
“I thought he would come into the Premier League – I think he’s almost caught the bug of what has happened to the rest of the players, a lack of confidence, not really playing with any zip that we expect him to come into this league.
“I think probably we will see the best of him next season. You are talking about a tremendous talent, but I do want to see a lot more, if I’m honest.
“He’s wearing that number 14 shirt [Thierry Henry], he’s not really covered it in glory yet, if I’m honest. I remember somebody who used to.”
