According to recent reports, Aaron Ramsey wants a significant salary increase on his new Arsenal contract.
Gabon forward Aubameyang joined the Gunners on deadline day in a club-record deal worth more than £50m – his three-and-a-half-year contract is worth around £170,000-a-week. Mkhitaryan, meanwhile, is on a similar wage after he left Manchester United as part of a straight swap deal with Chilean Alexis Sanchez.
As The Times claims, Arsenal fear Ramsey will follow Sanchez’s steps and run down his contract at the Emirates, putting the club in a challenging situation as they seek to avoid another contract stand-off.
Wales international’s contract expires at the end of next the season and the Gunners have already started negotiation with the 27-year-old to discuss a new long-term deal. Ramsey currently earns around £110,000-a-week but will look to put pen to paper on a contract more in line with that of Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan.
Wenger said: ‘It’s getting more difficult for everybody. ‘The players anticipate big wages because the transfers are at a very high level and now there is more possibility that the players go to the end of their contract.
