Arsenal are bracing themselves for the departure of Jack Wilshere this summer but the Gunners are plotting a move to replace him with another creative midfielder.
According to the London Evening Standard, Arsenal are battling Liverpool in the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay once the summer transfer window opens up.
Demirbay joined Hoffenheim from Hamburg for just £1.5m in the summer of 2016 and has made 52 appearances for the club as an attacking midfielder, netting eight goals and laying on 15 assists.
The 24-year-old was part of the Germany squad that were victorious at last summer’s Confederations Cup and is thought of highly in the national team ranks.
Hoffenheim value the creative midfielder at around £20m with both Liverpool and Arsenal keen on bringing him to the Premier League.
Wilshere becomes a free agent in June and has been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus, AC Milan and Everton in recent weeks, and Demirbay is a player in a similar mold to the England international.
