According to the Mirror, Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran is set to miss both legs of the Europa League semi-final against Arsenal after suffering a hamstring injury on Sunday.
Whilst it’s never nice to celebrate an opposing team getting an injury, Arsenal’s attacking players will look to exploit the missing component of the strong Madrid defence, which they pride themselves on.
Juanfran isn’t the only player ruled out of the tie for Atletico as former Chelsea striker Diego Costa will miss the first leg and is a doubt for the second.
The Brazilan-born Spaniard scored three goals in six games against Arsenal during his time at Chelsea, winning four of the six matches which he played in, so his absence will also be most welcome by the Gunners.
Arsenal’s season now rests on them advancing to the final of the competition as they look to win their first European trophy under Arsene Wenger before he departs in the summer.
