Arsenal are thought to have upped their bid to land Bayer Leverkusen safe hand Bernd Leno ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Germany international shot-stopper had been touted to make the move to Serie A side Napoli, but negotiations are thought to have hit the rock, with Leno’s agent recently suggesting there are ‘other teams’ vying for the player’s signature.

German news publication, Bild, suggests Arsenal have commenced talks with the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who is believed to want a new challenge after seven seasons with Bayern Leverkusen.

The goalie has made played 300 games for the side during that period, earning a good reputation for himself.

According to report, the safe hand has a £22m buyout clause included in his deal, and this has made the player not only a viable alternative, but an affordable also, as Arsenal look to strengthen their goalkeeping option.

The Gunners are expected to seek a replacement for Czech international goalkeeper Petr Cech, after his costly errors over the course of the campaign have left some fans questioning the player’s worth in the long run.
