Report from the BBC pundit David Ornstein claim Arsenal are unlikely to announce Arsene Wenger’s successor next week.

Since his announcement last month, chief executive Ivan Gazidis has been on the hunt for Wenger’s replacement with several names linked.

Former Arsenal players Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri and former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique are all on the shortlist.

Some reports had suggested Arsenal had reached an agreement with the man they want to succeed Wenger and an announcement was imminent.

But Ornstein has downplayed the speculation and said talks are still at an early stage.

He wrote on Twitter: “Arsenal not close to appointing new manager.

“No agreement yet on chosen candidate, negotiations at relatively early stage, thorough process ongoing, next week looks unrealistic.

“Once decided, IG/RS/SM will present a recommendation to #AFC board. Arteta among names being considered.”

Speaking in his final pre-match press conference, Wenger revealed his last day at Arsenal will be on Thursday when he clears his office.

He said: “I have some work to do in France (next week) on Monday, Tuesday. On Thursday, I will come back and clear my office.”

He also gave some words of wisdom to whoever replaces him, saying: “Respect the values of the club. I would like him to bring his own ideas. It’s a chance for the players to see something different.

“But on the other hand I would say respect what has been built here.”
