Arsenal have been handed a massive blow as Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen insists the club’s manager Julian Nagelsmann will ‘100 per cent’ stay with them this summer, despite Arsenal links.
As recently as Monday, Sky Sports reported that Nagelsmann was one of the front-runners for the Arsenal job, along with Mikel Arteta. Speaking to Sky in Germany though, Rosen rejected the possibility wholeheartedly.
“Julian Nagelsmann will be our coach next season,” he insisted. “100 per cent.”
Combine that with the fact that in April Nagelsmann distanced himself from the job, and it looks pretty clear cut that the young manager won’t be coaching in North London next season.
Nagelsmann is just 30 years old, but in his first season he led Hoffenheim into the Champions League qualifiers. They missed out on the actual competition thanks to Liverpool, but have gone one better this year by earning automatic qualification to the group stage through the league.
The manager won ‘German Football Manager of the Year’ in 2017, and is certainly an exciting prospect. For now it seems he’s going to stick with the club that gave him a chance in the first place.
As for Arsenal, it’s looking more and more likely that Mikel Arteta will take over. If he and Nagelsmann were the front-runners, and Nagelsmann is out of the running, it doesn’t take a genius to see that. We’ll see if the appointment gets any more media traction in the coming days.
